LAKE CITY YACHT CLUB

2013

PEPIN OPEN REGATTA

May 25 & 26, 2013

NOTICE OF RACE

The Lake City Yacht Club proudly announces the Notice of Race for the 2013 Pepin Open Sailboat Regatta. This year’s Pepin Open is scheduled for May 25 and 26. The LCYC welcomes all PHRF racers from around the mid-west to the windblown waters of Lake Pepin and the scenic Hiawatha Valley with its majestic Mississippi River bluffs.  One-design classes are also welcome if a minimum of five boats pre-register.  In order to keep costs down, race fees for the 2013 Pepin Open have remained the same as last year.  Early registration fees are $110 if received by Friday, May 17.  Late registration fees will be $125 if received after May 17.  Skippers who are members of US Sailing will receive a 10% discount applied to the race fees above (early registration $99, late registration $113).

Racing shall be governed by US Sailing’s Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016, except where altered by the LCYC Sailing instructions.  Additional information, including the Pepin Open Registration Form and the LCYC Sailing Instructions can be found at www.lakecityyachtclub.com under the Racing tab.

Two races are intended for Saturday, May 25, and two races for Sunday, May 26.  However, the Race Committee may decide to start more than the scheduled two races per day, without changing the total number of races.  The races will be managed by the Lake City Yacht Club’s Principal Race Officer from the club’s new race committee boat.
A skipper’s meeting will be held at the Lake City Yacht Club at 9:30 am on Saturday.  The first gun will be at approximately 11:00 am each day.  The courses will be a mix of W/L and Triangles with the lengths dependent upon wind direction and strength.

After racing concludes on Saturday, there will be a dinner served at the LCYC clubhouse.  Signup for the dinner will be posted on the bulletin board located just inside the entrance of the club.  Cost will be $15 per person, not included in the race registration fee.  Immediately following dinner, there will be a party on the deck with live music.  This is a terrific way to unwind after a full day of racing and to enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow competitors.

At the completion of racing on Sunday, an awards ceremony will be held on the deck at the LCYC clubhouse.  Trophies will be presented for at least two classes; Spinnaker Fleet 2 (PHRF >= 150), Spinnaker Fleet 1 (PHRF < 150).  A Jib & Main fleet will be started and scored separately, if at least 3 boats are registered by May 17.

The Pepin Open couples first class facilities with competitive racing, post-race parties, and camaraderie.  Whether you travel by water from the St. Croix River or trailer your boat, you’ll find professional launch services and dockage at the Lake City Marina (651-345-4211).  For information on Lake City and hotel accommodations visit www.lakecitymn.org or call the AmericInn of Lake City at 651-345-5611.

This will be a weekend full of exciting racing and tremendous fun.  Please direct any questions to Neil Fider at neil@neilfider.com. Hope to see you on beautiful Lake Pepin for the 2013 Pepin Open!
